Service as Action, the WHAT and the WHY?
WHAT- Action is learning by doing. It is an essential component of the IB Programme, that allows students to extend their learning beyond the classroom walls and into the community. It gives students the opportunity to connect and contribute to the real world, and empowers them to become global citizens.
WHY-It is the goal of Millbrook High School and the IB community, to teach students to be caring members of their community, to help students make a positive difference in the lives of others and our environment, and to help students become aware of how their actions impact those around them.  It is our hope, that as students demonstrate personal commitments to service, that we are also:
  • molding compassionate individuals.
  • helping students build authentic connections between what is learned in the classroom, to what they encounter in their community.
  • allowing them to develop existing and new skills
  • creating an awareness of personal areas of strengths and areas for growth
  • helping them learn perseverance
  • teaching them how to work well with others
  • fostering an development of international-mindedness
  • creating an awareness of the consequences of their actions
